  1. Great book! I ordered this for a college class but will totally keep this at my desk as we venture into more use of social media at work as well as my personal life. There were some things on SM that I wasn’t quite clear on, but this book breaks it down without being condescending. Great buy!

  2. Thorough but not very insightful. The Bible was concise by comparison.I’m not knocking the information provided here – it’s generally accurate. If you know nothing about social media and are willing to read 500 pages to learn, this book is for you. But… it lacks focus. There’s a lot there that will be of no use to you as a social media practitioner. The strategy isn’t there. If you’re someone who already knows a little about social media and you’re looking to refine your approach, nothing in this book will revolutionize your thinking. It’s written like a reference manual, not an instructional tract. That’s fine, depending on what you’re looking for. But, I think most people interested in buying a social media book care more about strategy than trivia, which is where this book excels.I commend the research effort that went into this volume, but in many aspects it “misses the forest for the trees.”

Great insights into using social media for marketing and customer engagement The Social Media Bible by Lon Safko and David Brake is a well-researched handbook on social media and how businesses can use this form of media to engage with customers, find prospects, connect with employees and market their products. Through a step by step approach, the book takes you through the tools and strategies that can be applied to secure social media success in business.First, this comprehensive book manages to open you up to the world of social media, especially if you are just getting started. I am impressed by the fact that the book lists very useful tools that anyone new to social media can use effectively in their business. The book is clearly divided into three sections including the basics, the tools, and the strategy and each of the sections offer great insights into using social media for marketing and customer engagement. Even if you have already used social media in your business, there is something new to learn here.
